Shoulder closures to continue through August for ADA upgrades.

Route 71 is scheduled to have daytime shoulder closures in both directions over the next several weeks as an ADA improvement project begins in Monmouth County. Traffic to be maintained utilizing traffic shifts.

From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday, July 13 and continuing daily Monday through Friday for several weeks, a single shoulder on Route 71 northbound and southbound is scheduled to be closed between Darlington Road in Deal and Main Street/Route 35 in Eatontown. Shoulder closures are expected to begin on Route 71 southbound, before progressing to Route 71 northbound. Traffic will be shifted where shoulder closures are implemented to create a work zone for crews. The shoulder closures and traffic shifts are necessary for ADA upgrades to curb ramps and underground electrical work. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution, and expect delays when driving through the work zone.

Beginning in late August, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day, Monday through Thursday nights, lane closures are scheduled to take place on Route 71 northbound and southbound between Darlington Road and Neptune Boulevard/Route 35. The lane closures will take place in one direction at a time. Traffic will be maintained utilizing an alternating traffic pattern. The overnight lane closures are necessary for milling, paving and roadway resurfacing.

This work is part of a $22.3 million federally funded project that will make ADA upgrades and perform pavement resurfacing in various locations throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties.
